Often club members self organize trips to other club sites (like Vermilion, Bonnyville and Cold Lake, see our maps of these sites).
The Canadian Birkie in Cooking Lake on the second Saturday of February often has a few members of our club skiing. See the maps on our website.
As well some loppets are arranged to make a weekend trip quite an event. This year the Kananaskis Cookie Race is on February 28 and the Lake Louise Loppet is on March 1 making for a great weekend trip. Here are some details for the trip:
Event: “Rocky Mountain Double-Header Family Fun Ski weekend”
When: Fri. Feb. 27/15 to Sun. Mar. 1/15
What: Ski the 38th annual “Cookie Race” (Kananaskis Ski Marathon) at Peter Lougheed Prov. Par. in Kananaskis Country on Saturday. Don’t let the name daunt you. It’s a fun family loppet! (for more information: check the Foothills Nordic Ski Club website . Info doesn’t appear to be up yet, but the number of skiers is limited and it books up fast. On Sunday, we’re off for a leisurely ski in the beautiful surroundings of Lake Louise at the Lake Louise Loppet on Sunday
Accomodations: Group booking at a reasonably priced hotel in Canmore to get the best rate
Transportation: Car pool or get there on your own
